Barclays Premier League Gameweek 24 Preview

Although the Gameweek started on 26th with the only and early game between Aston Villa and Blackburn, but the main action starts now for the gameweek after the FA Cup action. Not much break after the weekend’s FA Cup ties, which surprisingly didn’t force a replay for the first time in many years.

Arsenal v Newcastle, 19:45
Rohit - Again like last week, another team has a replay of sorts just after playing each other in the FA Cup. Arsenal beat Newcastle 3-0 in the cup game on the weekend, and its more or less likely to repeat again. Kevin Keegan won’t turnaround the Tyneside in a day, and it will be sometime till the results start coming for them. Newcastle is yet to win a game since the last six and this might just add one to make it seven.
Prediction : 2-0

Bolton v Fulham, 20:00
Rohit - Bolton is somewhat in a better league position and points thank Fulham, and the home advantage might just do it for them. Bolton has won four of their last six home games and Fulham is yet to win one in as many away games. So I’d go with stats here and fancy a Bolton win.
Prediction : 2-1

Middlesbrough v Wigan, 20:00
Rohit - Its going to be a close game, but Middlesbrough has looked like a better side in recent times. They take the game to you and do look like scoring, whereas Wigan has some defensive problems of their own. Boro should win this.
Prediction : 2-1

Sunderland v Birmingham, 20:00
Rohit - Fight for survival this, both the teams are tied on points but Birmingham is out of the danger zone, for now, thanks to their goal difference. Sunderland does play well at home, and their form has been improving. Birmingham would be taking the fight and this should be a close encounter, but in the end Sunderland should just about do it.
Prediction : 2-1

Wednesday, 30 January 2008

Chelsea v Reading, 19:45
Rohit - Chelsea currently lead the form table with 16 points from the last six games from a possible 18, and by that reckoning, and playing at home, this should be a comfortable win for the Blues. Anelka might open his account after moving to Chelsea. Reading looks out of sorts at the moment with results not coming their way, even at home.
Prediction : 3-1

Derby v Man City, 19:45
Rohit - Both the teams were knocked out of the FA Cup, with Sheffield United consuming Manchester City and Derby beaten by Preston North End by a 4-1 at home. City although played bad, but should pick up the points from this game. Derby’s woeful run will continue and it will be interesting to see the approach of their new owners.
Prediction : 1-2

Everton v Tottenham, 20:00
Rohit -  Everton is just too strong at home and Spurs have failed to win the last 3 away games. They lost to Manchester United in the FA Cup, and were outclassed by United in the second half, and that might happen again at Goodison Park. Everton is a solid side in defense and even though Spurs have a potent attack, they do not have an equally strong defense, and Everton will just about do it in the end to make it all 3 points at home.
Prediction : 2-1

Man Utd v Portsmouth, 20:00
Rohit - Portsmouth has been superb away from home this season, but Old Trafford is not an easy place to be in for any team, and even after improving their attack after signing Milan Baros on loan, Pompey will still be outclassed by United. Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez are all in top form, and Scholes is back from injury, and it will be another comfortable win for United.
Prediction : 3-0

West Ham v Liverpool, 19:45
Rohit - Liverpool has not won in the league this year, their last win coming against Derby County on 26th December, and they are under immense pressure to perform. Although they won 5-1 against Havant & Waterlooville, but they are by no means a strong opposition, so I’m not sure if things will change a lot here. West Ham are a good side to play, they have beaten Manchester United at Upton Park, and they will really test teams here. And it might be a stern test for Liverpool and might go as a fifth straight draw for the Reds.
Prediction : 1-1
