Kevin Keegan returns to Newcastle

Kevin Keegan returns to Newcastle

Kevin Keegan shockingly returns to Newcastle to manage the Tyneside for the second time. Having previously managed Newcastle between 1992 to 1997, Keegan was regarded as “Geordie messiah”. He took Newcastle back to top flight football in 1993 and came very close to winning the title. After a lot of speculation as to who will eventually manage Newcastle United after the departure of Sam Allardyce, Keegan arrives out of nowhere. Harry Redknapp & Mark Hughes had said no for the post and even Alan Shearer was ruled out. So after 11 years since he left, and 6 managers that Newcastle has appointed since, Keegan’s arrival should mean a lot to their fans. He was a legend for them earlier and he can do that again. He might just prove to be the light of hope Newcastle was looking for. The fans will be ecstatic about his return and so will be the players, the fans will be very vocal and the support will be visible. He can transform their fortunes instantly, but the fans should be careful enough in not repeating what they’ve done all these years, they want attacking football but that would take time, and results don’t come instantly. As with the job, the expectations would be sky high, and its a big risk should he fail. He left Manchester City with no intention to return to football, and why he changed his mind, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe it was the love he has for this club, or maybe Ashley wanted to bring some hope back to the Tyneside. This long absence should have given him time to enjoy the other things in life and he would be charged up to take on football again. But Keegan needs to think deep and get some players who can make it work for the club. There are a lot of problems in the system, and all the past managers can agree to that, even Sam Allardyce came with a lot of hope, and Kevin needs to be careful in the decisions he make, in the players he buy, in the way they play. It should be entertaining, the Newcastle side now, and it’ll be interesting to see what he can do to Newcastle’s fortunes. In some sense his return makes a lot of sense. Fans want attacking football and they saw a lot of that under him. Now attacking football or not, the good thing is that Premier League is getting interesting, with managers coming of such repute. Being known as the best league in the world with top class players, Premier League is also having the best managers in the world now, and Keegan can only add to that.
